Loic Zehani, quinto (!) 9b a Orgon

C’è stato un breve periodo, negli anni ’90, in cui la falesia quasi urbana di Orgon, in Provenza, è stato il centro del mondo della scalata e meta di pellegrinaggio verticale almeno da tutta Europa. era il periodo d’oro sportivo dei fratelli Petit, specialmente del più giovane (e adesso meno famoso) Francois, che era stato il primo a liberare diversi 8c e 8c+ che per l’epoca erano vicinissime al limite mondiale.

Poi il giusto oblio, dovuto principalmente al fatto che molte di quelle vie erano fortemente bricolage, secondo la moda di allora, mentre altri muri sembravano semplicemente inscalabili.

Loic Zehani, figlio d’arte ma non garista, si è proprio dedicato a quelle sezioni di parete troppo futuristiche trent’anni fa, ma possibili per i big di adesso. Molte di queste linee sono state chiodate dal padre Christophe. “Quartiers nord” è ben il quinto 9b liberato da Loic su questa parete, certamente un atleta molto “local”, ma che è passato finora ingiustamente ai margini dal radar della stampa specializzata.

There was a short period, in the 1990s, when the quasi-urban crag of Orgon, Provence, was the center of the climbing world and a destination for vertical pilgrimage from at least all over Europe. it was the sporting heyday of the Petit brothers, especially the younger (and now less famous) Francois, who had been the first to free several 8c and 8c+ routes that for the time were very close to the world limit.

Then the oblivion, mainly due to the fact that many of those routes were strongly chipped, according to the fashion of the time, while other walls seemed simply unclimbable.

Loic Zehani, son of art but not a competitor, has precisely dedicated himself to those sections of wall that were too futuristic thirty years ago but possible for the big boys of now. Many of these lines were bolted by his father Christophe. “Quartiers nord” is well and truly the fifth 9b freed by Loic on this wall, certainly a very “local” athlete, but one who has so far unfairly passed to the sidelines from the radar of the specialized press.
