Lee e Ondra fermano Schalck e tengono viva la coppa

Tra Mejidi Schalck e la coppa del mondo boulder 2023 c’era probabilmente solo il blocco tre della finale di Prega, quarta tappa del circuito.

Con Narasaki decimo e fuori dalla finale, con Schalck arrogante ed efficace sui primi due blocchi tanto da essere davanti anche a Lee, la Coppa del Mondo maschile stava per concludersi virtualmente in anticipo, perchè difficilmente qualcuno avrebbe potuto far meglio di tre vittorie, ormai chiaramente alla portata del 19enne francese.

Poi Ondra ha fatto il miracolo, passeggiando al secondo giro il blocco d’equilibrio con una facilità da sembrare che l’avesse già provato. Schalck non era più nel suo mondo, fatto (per ora) di forza, anticipazione, coordinazione e dinamismo. Su quel blocco bisognava scalare old school e con un paio di scarpe in grado sia di spalmare che di tenere sul piccolo. Ed è caduto, circostanza fatale a Praga, perchè i tracciatori hanno completamente sbagliato l’ultimo blocco, corto, coordinativo e scalabile anche in un regionale under 20. Quindi inutile perchè facilmente flashato da tutti.

A completare lo stop a Schalck è arrivato anche Dohyoun Lee, coreano in straforma e primo dopo la semifinale. Il ventenne ha barcollato sul blocco tre, ma è passato addirittura flash, togliendo a Ondra la possibilità di un ritorno comunque clamoroso già così, che sarebbe stato pazzesco con una vittoria in casa.

L’Italia ancora indietro, con un ottimo Moroni (tecnico – atleta ?) che dopo cinque anni dall’ultima gara va vicino alla semifinale, spareggiato solo dai tentativi. L’altro italiano, Bombardi, arriva ben oltre la settantesima posizione. La situazione non è rosea nel suo complesso. With Narasaki tenth and out of the final, with Schalck so arrogant and effective on the first two blocks that he was even ahead of Lee, the men’s World Cup was about to end virtually early, because hardly anyone could have done better than three victories, by now clearly within reach of the 19-year-old Frenchman.

Then Ondra performed a miracle, walking the balance block on the second lap with an ease that seemed to have already tried it. Schalck was no longer in his comfort zone , made (for now) of strength, anticipation, coordination and dynamism. That boulder required old school skills and with a pair of shoes capable of both spreading and holding on to the small. And he fell, a fatal circumstance in Prague, because the routesetters completely screwed up the last boulder, short, coordinative and scalable even in an under 20 regional. So useless because it was easily flashed by everyone.

Doyoun Lee also arrived to complete the stop at Schalck, a Korean in great shape and first after the semifinal. The twenty-year-old staggered on block three, but even flashed by, depriving Ondra of the possibility of a sensational comeback in itself, which would have been crazy with a home win.

Italy still behind, with an excellent Moroni (coach – athlete?) who after five years from the last race is close to the semi-final, broken only by attempts.
