Annunciata da Alex Megos, primo salitore, come secondo 9c mondiale, questo maestoso monotiro di Ceuse era stato ripetuto da Stefano Ghisolfi, che ne aveva proposto un downgrade a 9b+ e poi da Sean Bailey, che aveva confermato l’impressione di Stefano.
Ora arriva la quarta del fuoriclasse Bouin, che recentemente aveva liberato DNA (secondo vero 9c mondiale) e Supreme Jumbo Love 9b+
Le dichiarazioni di Seb: Bibliograpghie era un grande obiettivo per quest’anno. Dal momento che Alex ha fatto la prima salita, ero davvero entusiasta di provare qualcosa di veramente difficile di qualcun altro, qui in Francia. Anche se Céüse è molto lontano dal mio stile di arrampicata.Un 9b+ nella mia zona, con già 3 salite di top climber… era ovvio che dovevo provarlo. Durante il processo, sono caduto 11 volte in cima alla via (dopo il passaggio chiave principale). Credo di aver sottovalutato quest’ultima parte della via. Non sembra o sembra così difficile presa da sola. Eppure, quando vieni da terra, è molto diverso. Ricordo che Sean Bailey in realtà è caduto 13 volte lassù, quindi sono felice che detenga ancora il record ;-). Le condizioni sono state piuttosto difficili quest’anno. Pioveva quasi tutti i giorni e abbiamo dovuto aspettare pazientemente una buona finestra per fare un tentativo. Bibliographie non è una via che si addice particolarmente ai miei punti di forza, quindi per me è stata una grande sfida fare un 9b+ su piccole tacche. On Saturday 3rd of June, French climber Sébastien Bouin made a rare ascent of ‘Bibliographie’ at the crag of Céüse, in Southern France. The 35m route, located in the ‘Biographie’ sector of the crag, was first climbed by German climber Alex Megos in the Summer of 2020 and given a provisional grade of 9c, making it only the second climb to be proposed at that grade in the world, at the time.
Subsequent repeats by Stefano Ghisolfi and Sean Bailey the following year saw the consensus on the route’s difficulty settle at 9b+, based on the other climber’s input.
Seb’s success marks the fourth ascent of the route and follows a remarkable 18 months of climbing for him, during which time he established his own cutting-edge route ‘DNA’, graded 9c and America’s hardest rock climb ‘Supreme Jumbo Love’ 9b+.
Seb commented: “Bibliograpghie was a big goal for this year. Since Alex did the first ascent of this one, I was really psyched to try something really hard from someone else, here in France. Even if Céüse is very far away from my own natural climbing style. I was really motivated to go through the process on Bibliographie. I am usually alone when trying my projects in France and not many people try them, but Biblio was something different. You know, a 9b+ in my ‘local’ area, already with 3 ascents by top climbers… it was obvious that I had to try it. During the process, I fell 11 times at the top of the route (after the main crux). I think I underestimated this last part of the route. It doesn’t look or feel that hard when you do this single section in isolation. Yet, when you are coming from the ground, it was way different. I remember Sean Bailey actually fell 13 times up there, so I am happy that he still holds the record ;-). Conditions were quite challenging this year. It was raining almost every day, and we had to wait, patiently, for a good window to make an attempt. Bibliographie is not a route that particularly suits my strengths, so it was a great challenge to do a 9b+ on tiny crimps for me. But, now it’s time to go back to something a little more my style ;-).”
